Learn how to create a sign-up form that retargets your existing email subscribers to ask them if they want to sign up for WhatsApp marketing. Collecting WhatsApp opt-ins from your email subscribers enables you to engage across multiple channels and tailor messages based on subscriber preferences to create more personalized experiences.
Before you begin
We assume you already have a multi-step form where you collect both email and WhatsApp consent .
This guide walks through how to clone this form and adjust it to target those who are only subscribed to email. Cloning is the quickest way to set up this form. It lets you reuse the same branding and styles so you can publish faster and create a consistent opt-in experience.
Gather WhatsApp consent from email subscribers
The steps to create a form that targets email-only subscribers are the same for all multi-step forms that collect WhatsApp consent.
- Navigate to the Sign-up forms tab in Klaviyo’s left-hand navigation.
- Find your multi-step form that collects both email and WhatsApp consent, then click the 3 dots > Clone.
- Choose Clone to this account, and name your cloned form (for example, “Retarget email subscribers”).
- Click Continue.
- Locate your newly cloned form in the list, then click the 3 dots > Edit to open the form editor.
- Next to Email Opt-in above your form preview, click the 3 dots > Delete.
- Confirm by clicking Delete Step. Your form will now only request WhatsApp consent.
- Click into the Targeting and behavior tab.
- Select Targeting.
- Under Visitors, select Show to email subscribers only.
- Select the phone number field in your form. Under WhatsApp Consent, ensure the appropriate promotional consent option is selected.
- When you are ready, click Publish.
Once published, this form will only display to visitors who previously subscribed to your email marketing and will prompt them to opt in to WhatsApp marketing. You can also send a campaign to your email subscribers with a link to this form to drive additional WhatsApp opt-ins.
